Born in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India on June 10, 1984, playback singer Sucharitha
Thyagarajan is better known by the names Rita or Rita Thyagarajan. Introduced to
classical music at a young age, she began studying Carnatic music at the age of
five. Her studies switched to Hindustani classical music while also earning a
bachelor’s degree in design. After college, she submitted a demo CD to film
composer / music director D. Imman, who hired her to perform “Yendan
Varungaalaveetukaraney” (from the 2005 film Aanai), which was her first
