José Thomaz de Assumpção, known as Zeca Assumpção, was born on September 19,
1945, in São Paulo, Brazil. He studied at the Berklee College of Music in Boston
and began his career as a studio musician upon returning to Brazil. Between 1974
and 1977, he collaborated with Hermeto Pascoal's group, contributing to Viajando
Com O Som. Assumpção arranged music for notable artists such as Caetano Veloso
and composed for film, television, and ballet, earning the Candango Trophy for
Best Film Score for Barrela: Escola de Crimes. His notable albums include Caixa
