Thornetta Davis is an American blues and R&B singer born on August 11, 1963, in
Detroit. She performed in the high school choir and joined the group Jas at age
15. Following the group's disbandment in 1983, Davis established the ensemble
Chanteuse. She performed as a background singer for Lamonte Zodiac & the Love
Signs and Big Chief. In 1994, she released the solo EP Shout Out to the
Dusthuffer through Sub Pop. Her debut studio recording, Sunday Morning Music,
appeared in 1996 and featured the song “Cry”, which was used in the television
