The Wrens were formed in New Jersey by brothers Greg Whelan (guitar/vocals) and
Kevin Whelan (bass/vocals), joined by guitarist and vocalist Charles Bissell in
1989 and drummer Jerry MacDonald in 1990. The group first attracted attention
with the 1993 single "Low" and the 1994 single "Napiers". Their debut album,
Silver, was released in 1994 under Grass Records, followed by Secaucus in 1996;
both received critical acclaim. A dispute over a lucrative contract in 1996 led
