The Village Stompers, an American Dixieland jazz group, originated in Greenwich
Village, New York City. The band consisted of Dick Brady, Don Coates, Ralph
Casale, Frank Hubbell, Lenny Pogan, Al McManus, Don Steele, Mitchell May, and
Joe Muranyi. Their career began with the hit song "Washington Square", which
reached number 2 on the Billboard Hot 100 singles chart in 1963 and topped the
Adult Contemporary Chart. The Village Stompers developed a folk-dixie style that
resonated with audiences, blending traditional jazz elements with contemporary
