The Mooney Suzuki formed in New York City in 1996, originally composed of
vocalist and guitarist Sammy James Jr., guitarist Graham Tyler, bassist
John Paul Ribas, and drummer Will Rockwell‑Scott; the band’s name references the
first two vocalists of the German group Can. Their early career began with the
release of the singles "Taking Me Apart" and "Love Is Everywhere" in 1998,
followed by an EP in 1999, and the debut album People Get Ready in 2000 on
