The Durutti Column
The Durutti Column, formed in Manchester in 1978, became the principal creative
outlet of guitarist, pianist, and occasional vocalist Vini Reilly. After
studying guitar and playing with local punk group Ed Banger and the Nosebleeds,
Reilly developed a delicate, atmospheric style that drew on jazz, folk,
classical music, and ambient textures rather than the aggression associated with
much of the post-punk scene. The original Durutti Column lineup quickly
