The Cruel Sea, an Australian indie rock band from Sydney, New South Wales, was
formed in late 1987. The original lineup included Jim Elliott on drums and Dan
Rumour on guitar, with Dee Corben on bass guitar and his brother Gerard "Ged"
Corben on guitar. The band initially played instrumental music but gained
popularity after Tex Perkins joined as the vocalist. In 1989, they released
their first EP, Down Below, which featured nine tracks and was produced by Phil
