The Chantays, an American surf-rock band, formed in 1961 in Santa Ana,
California. The original lineup included Brian Carman on guitar, Bob Spickard on
guitar, Bob Welch on drums, Rob Marshall on piano, Jim Frias on saxophone, and
Warren Waters on bass. Inspired by the local band The Rhythm Rockers, they began
performing under the name The Chantays in December 1961 at the Tustin Youth
Center. Their breakthrough came with the release of "Pipeline" as a B-side to
their first single "Move It", which was released in December 1962 on Downey
