Wilfred Theodore Wemyes, known professionally as Ted Weems, was born on
September 26, 1901, in Pitcairn, Pennsylvania. He learned to play the violin and
trombone at a young age, forming his first band while still in school. Weems's
professional music career began in 1923 when he signed with the Victor Talking
Machine Company. His breakthrough came with "Somebody Stole My Gal", which
became a Number 1 hit in early 1924 and sold over one million copies. He
