Sytse Buwalda, born in 1965 in Zuiderwoude, is a Dutch counter-tenor. He studied
at the Sweelinck School of Music in Amsterdam. Early in his career, Buwalda
worked with notable conductors such as Frans Brüggen, Gustav Leonhardt,
Sigiswald Kuijken, and Sir David Willcocks. His breakthrough came when he became
the alto soloist for most volumes of Pieter Jan Leusink's recording of Johann
Sebastian Bach's complete sacred cantatas. He also embarked on successful tours,
