Sydney Symphony Orchestra
The Sydney Symphony Orchestra is an Australian orchestra based in Sydney. The
first concert under this name took place on September 30, 1905, and a sustained
subscription season began in 1908, presenting the Sydney premieres of musical
pieces such as Richard Strauss's “Don Juan” and Claude Debussy's “Prélude à
l'après-midi d'un faune”. The ensemble evolved into a permanent professional
orchestra in 1932 when the Australian Broadcasting Commission adopted a 20-piece
