Sven‑Bertil Gunnar Evert Taube was born in Stockholm on 24 November 1934 and
entered the public eye as a singer and actor. His early exposure to music began
at age 14 when he learned guitar, and while traveling across Europe he
cultivated an interest in folk traditions, which later informed his recordings.
In 1954 he released his debut album Swedish Folksongs And Ballads on Folkways
Records, featuring a cover of his father Evert Taube’s composition; the record
established his reputation as a faithful interpreter of Swedish folk repertoire.
