Stanford Robinson was an English conductor and composer born on July 5, 1904, in
Leeds. He studied at the Royal College of Music under Adrian Boult. Robinson
served on the staff of the BBC from 1924 to 1966 and was the first chorus master
of the Wireless Chorus. He debuted at the Proms in 1929 conducting the piece “On
Craig Dhu” and served as assistant conductor of the Proms from 1947 to 1950.
Robinson performed at the Royal Opera House, conducting the operas Die
Fledermaus and Faust. He served as the chief conductor of the Queensland
