The St. Louis Jesuits were a group of Catholic composers — Bob Dufford, John Foley, Tim Manion, Roc O’Connor, and Dan Schutte — who studied together at Saint Louis University. They composed in a folk-style, using acoustic guitars and contemporary-style melodies to set biblical and other religious texts to music. Their first album, Neither Silver Nor Gold, was released in 1974. Their second studio album, Earthen Vessels (1975), became a major success.
