Sol Zim
Sol Zim, born Solomon Zimelman on August 17, 1939, is an American cantor,
singer, and composer residing in Queens, New York. Coming from a line of five
generations of cantors, Zim graduated from the Cantorial Institute at the Jewish
Theological Seminary and studied vocal technique under Kurt Baum and Julius
Rudel. In 1960, he performed with the Jewish Minister Cantor Association at
Madison Square Garden. Influenced by contemporary rock music, he composed and
released the Jewish rock opera David Superstar in 1974 alongside his album
