Smith, a rock band from Los Angeles, California, formed in 1969. The group
initially evolved from another band featuring some of the same members called
"The Smiths." Their breakthrough came with the release of "Baby It's You", a
cover of Burt Bacharach's song featuring Gayle McCormick on lead vocals. This
single reached number 5 on the U.S. Billboard chart and sold over one million
copies, earning a gold record from the Recording Industry Association of America
