Sibongile Khumalo
Sibongile Khumalo, born Sibongile Mngoma on September 24, 1957, in Soweto, South
Africa, was a South African mezzo-soprano who blended opera, jazz, and
traditional Zulu music. Early training on the violin from age eight and music
studies at the University of Witwatersrand and the University of Zululand laid
the foundation for her classical career. She first gained national attention in
1993 when she received the Standard Bank Young Artist Award at the Grahamstown
