Shelly Manne & His Men was a US jazz band led by drummer Shelly Manne, active
from 1955 to approximately 1967. The group was formed in California and
initially included members such as Bob Enevoldsen, Joe Maini, Bob Cooper, Jimmy
Giuffre, Russ Freeman, and Ralph Peña. In September 1959, the band recorded The
West Coast Sound for Contemporary Records. The group achieved significant
recognition during their residency at San Francisco’s Black Hawk club in 1959,
which resulted in the live albums At the Black Hawk Vol. 1-4. Notable members
