Born in the immediate aftermath of grunge, American band Seven Mary Three (also
abbreviated 7 Mary 3 or SM3) formed in 1992 in Williamsbrug, Virginia. Led by
fellow high-school singer/guitarist Jason Ross and guitarist Jason Pollock, the
band released their first independent album, Churn (1994), before enjoying
success with their re-recorded version, American Standard (1995). The track
"Cumbersome", which had been a minor radio hit, became Seven Mary Three's
signature hit, reaching #39 on the Billboard Hot 100 and #1 on Mainstream Rock.
