Franz "Schnuckenack" Reinhardt, born February 17, 1921, in Weinsheim, Rhineland
Palatinate, Germany, was a gypsy jazz musician, violinist, interpreter, and
composer. He began playing music at an early age with his family, who were
German Sinti musicians. During the Nazi era, he was deported to Częstochowa,
Poland, where he survived despite the persecution of his family. In 1967,
Reinhardt formed the Schnuckenack Reinhardt Quintett, inspired by Django
Reinhardt's Quintette du Hot Club de France. The quintet released several
