Rumon Gamba is a British conductor born on November 24, 1972. He studied music
at the University of Durham and conducting at the Royal Academy of Music under
Colin Metters, George Hurst, and Sir Colin Davis. Gamba was the first conducting
student to receive the dipRAM and was supported by the Henry Wood and Bob
Harding scholarships. In 1998, he won the Lloyds Bank BBC Young Musicians
Conductors Workshop. He served as assistant and associate conductor for the BBC
Philharmonic between 1998 and 2002. Gamba was the principal conductor of the
