Royal Northern Sinfonia is a British chamber orchestra founded in Newcastle upon
Tyne in 1958 by Michael Hall as the first permanent professional chamber
orchestra in Britain outside London. After performing primarily at Newcastle
City Hall for 46 years, the orchestra became resident at The Glasshouse,
formerly Sage Gateshead, in 2004. In 2013, Queen Elizabeth II granted the
orchestra the title Royal, officially renaming it Royal Northern Sinfonia. The
