Rolando Alarcón
Rolando Alarcón Soto was a Chilean folklorist, composer, and teacher associated
with the Nueva Canción Chilena movement. He began his musical career in 1955 as
the artistic director of the folkloric group Cuncumén, with whom he toured
extensively in Chile and Europe and recorded three albums, remaining with the
ensemble until 1963. After leaving the group, he formed a duo with Silvia Urbina
and, between 1964 and 1965, gained recognition as a composer for groups such as
Los Cuatro Cuartos and Las Cuatro Brujas. His solo career began in 1965 with the
