Robert Morgenthaler, born on January 12, 1952, in Bern, Switzerland, is a
trombonist known for his contributions to jazz. He began performing at festivals
as a teenager and later studied at the Zurich Conservatory and the Swiss Jazz
School. He became a freelance musician in 1974 and joined the Swiss Jazz Quintet
in 1976, with whom he recorded several albums and toured North America until the
mid-1980s. In 1985 and 1986, Morgenthaler played with Carla Bley's bands and
