Herbert Richard “Rick” Wilkins is a Canadian composer, conductor, and jazz
musician known for his work with the tenor saxophone and other woodwind
instruments. He played in dance orchestras led by Jack Ryan and Gav Morton
before moving to Toronto at age twenty. There, he performed with Benny Louis's
band and studied arrangement with Phil Nimmons at the Advanced School of
Contemporary Music. Wilkins arranged music for the CBC Orchestra starting in
1960 and directed compositions for various artists including Julie Amato and
