Ralph Carmichael
Ralph Carmichael was an American composer and arranger born on May 27, 1927, in
Quincy. He was regarded as the pioneer of contemporary Christian music and won
Emmy Award in 1950 for television program The Campus Christian Hour. As
teenager, Carmichael played violin with San Jose Civic Symphony before enrolling
at Southern California Bible College in 1944. He faced resistance from Christian
community for using drums and big band elements but reached wider visibility
after being invited to score films for Billy Graham Evangelistic Association in
