Portia Nelson
Portia Nelson, born Betty Mae Nelson in Brigham City, Utah, on May 27, 1920, was
an American singer-songwriter, actress, and author. After working as a secretary
for film director André de Toth and United Artists, she adopted the stage name
Portia and began performing in Los Angeles cabarets, where her soprano voice
attracted the attention of producers and fellow musicians. She signed with
Columbia Masterworks and released her debut album Love Songs for a Late Evening
in 1953, followed by Let Me Love You in 1956, which showcased her
interpretations of Bart Howard’s compositions. ...
