Viewed at the time as Britain's answer to the Everley Brothers, Peter and Gordon were a folk-oriented pop duo swept along with the vanguard of the British Invasion. Their 1964 debut single, A World Without Love was a Beatles-style ballad which gave the English duo a number one in the US and UK charts earning them a gold disc in the process. The song was written by Paul McCartney, boyfriend of Asher's sister, the actress Jane Asher.
