Original Dixieland Jazz Band
The Original Dixieland Jass Band, formed in 1916, was an American jazz band that
pioneered the genre. The quintet consisted of Nick LaRocca on cornet, Larry
Shields on clarinet, Eddie Edwards on trombone, Henry Ragas on piano, and Tony
Sbarbaro on drums. Its breakthrough came with its first recordings in early
1917, including the single "Livery Stable Blues", the first jazz record ever
issued. Its success continued with hits such as "Tiger Rag", "Clarinet
Marmalade" (1918), and "Margie" (1920). In late 1917, the group changed the
spelling of its name to the Original Dixieland Jaz...
