Norman Quentin Cook, known professionally as Fatboy Slim, was born on July 31,
1963, in Bromley, Kent, England. He began his music career as a bassist for the
indie rock band The Housemartins, achieving a UK number-one single with their
cover of "Caravan of Love" in 1986. After the band's split in 1988, Cook moved
to Brighton and pursued dance music, forming the electronic group Beats
International, which produced the number-one single "Dub Be Good to Me" in 1990.
He also released house records under various names, including Pizzaman and the
Mighty Dub Katz.
