Formed in France in 1994 by double bassist and composer Simon Mary, this world
music band was originally known as Languages before changing the name to Mukta
in 1996. Alongside Simon Mary, the band also featured Brigitte Menon (sitarist),
Geoffroy Tamisier (trumpet), Jean Chevalier (drums), and Bob Coke (percussion).
With their blending of Eastern and Western music, Mukta defied all
categorization and received critical acclaim with each release. Their albums
include Indian Sitar & World Jazz (1999), Jade (2000), Haveli (2005), Invisible
Worlds (2008), and Live! (2009).
