Moreira da Silva was a legendary Brazilian singer-songwriter and the definitive
creator of the samba de breque style. Born in 1902, he began his career in the
early 1930s under the mentorship of Ismael Silva, debuting on Odeon Records. He
achieved early fame with the hit "Arrasta a sandália" (1932) and the classic
"Implorar" (1934). Known for his sharp wit and "malandro" persona, he influenced
generations of artists, notably collaborating with Chico Buarque on the landmark
