Maxine Sullivan
Maxine Sullivan, born Marietta Williams on May 13, 1911 in Homestead,
Pennsylvania, was an American jazz vocalist. She began her career singing with
her uncle's band, the Red Hot Peppers, and was discovered by Gladys Mosier in
the mid-1930s. Her breakthrough came with a swing version of "Loch Lomond"
featuring John Kirby on bass, which became a hit. Sullivan's early popularity
led to an appearance in the film Going Places (1938) and the radio program Flow
