Matt King, born September 28, 1966, in Asheville, North Carolina, is an American country singer-songwriter who grew up in a musical family, with a mother who played the piano and a father who was a bluegrass guitarist. In the mid-1990s, after relocating to Nashville, King recorded demos and performed locally, eventually catching the attention of producer Gary Morris. This led to an audition with Atlantic Records, who signed him and released his debut album, Five O'Clock Hero, in 1997.
