Mates of State
Mates of State, an American indie pop duo, was formed in 1997 by Kori Gardner
and Jason Hammel. The couple met in Lawrence, Kansas, and initially played
together in a four-piece rock band called Vosotros. After moving to California
in 1998, they decided to focus on their musical career full-time and got married
in 2001. Their early recordings featured drums and the electric organ, with
