Marihiko Hara (born 1983) is a Kyoto-based Japanese composer originally from
Osaka. A graduate of Kyoto University’s Faculty of Education, he left the
university’s graduate program to focus on music. His work is characterized by a
quiet intensity and explores the intersection of acoustic minimalism and
experimental sound, often combining piano, chamber instrumentation, field
recordings, and electronic textures. Hara has been involved in a wide range of
media, including contemporary art, dance, and film, and is a member of the
