Mahlathini and the Mahotella Queens was a South African mbaqanga supergroup
formed in Johannesburg in 1964 by talent scout Rupert Bopape. The group featured
Simon "Mahlathini" Nkabinde, known for his powerful vocals; the Mahotella
Queens, with Hilda Tloubatla, Nobesuthu Mbadu, and Mildred Mangxola; and the
Makgona Tsohle Band, led by Marks Mankwane. They began their career under Gallo
Africa's Mavuthela division, releasing hit singles like "Orlando Train" and
