Mafalda Arnauth
Teresa Mafalda Nunes Arnauth de Figueiredo, also known as Mafalda Arnauth, was
born on October 4, 1974, in Lisbon, Portugal, and is a fado singer. She began
performing fado while studying veterinary medicine, gaining professional
traction when João Braga invited her to perform at the Teatro São Luiz in Lisbon
in 1995. Her debut album Mafalda Arnauth was released in 1999 under EMI/Valentim
de Carvalho and won the Revelation Award from BLITZ magazine. In 2003, she
became the first Portuguese musician signed to Virgin Records internationally.
