Luis Segura, born Luis Gonzaga Segura on June 21, 1939, in Mao, Dominican
Republic, was a Dominican singer, musician, and composer. Raised in a humble
family, Segura began making guitars from rudimentary materials at age eight and
started performing in local festivals by the time he moved to Santo Domingo at
twelve. His breakthrough came with "Cariñito de mi vida" (1964), which earned
him the nickname "El Añoñaito" for his melancholic style. Segura's career took
