Louis Hall Nelson, born on September 17, 1902, in New Orleans, Louisiana, was an
American jazz trombonist. He began playing the valve trombone at age fifteen and
later switched to the slide trombone under Professor Claiborne Williams.
Nelson's first band was Joe Gabriel's band of Thibodeaux, Louisiana. In the
1920s, he played with various jazz musicians in New Orleans. After his wife
Julia Kissack Nelson died in 1928, Louis joined Sidney Desvigne Orchestra.
During World War II, he served as Musician 1st Class in the U.S. Navy. Post-war,
