Lori E. Carson, born on March 2, 1958, in Queens, New York, is an American
singer-songwriter known for her contributions to contemporary folk and
alternative country music. She began performing in the mid-1980s at venues like
Folk City and The Bitter End. In 1987, Carson signed a development deal with
Manhattan Records, followed by a recording contract with Geffen Records in 1988.
Her debut album Shelter, produced by Hal Willner and released in 1990, featured
