Lil Green
Liliane Green, known professionally as Lil Green, and born on December 22, 1919,
in Port Gibson, Mississippi, was a classic female blues singer-songwriter. After
her parents' early death, she moved to Chicago at a young age and began singing
in local cabarets and clubs. At 18, she recorded for Lester Melrose, releasing
several successful singles that gained popularity among African American
audiences. Her breakthrough came with "Romance in the Dark" (1940), a
