Leroy Gómez, born July 8, 1950 in Wareham, Massachusetts, is an American
singer-songwriter of Cape Verdean descent. He began his musical journey at age
14 by forming his own band and later joined Tavares, a local group with whom he
toured North America and Europe. In 1973, Gómez played saxophone on "Social
Disease" from Elton John's album Goodbye Yellow Brick Road. This collaboration
led him to remain in Paris, where he worked as a session player. There, he met
Nicolas Skorsky and Jean Manuel de Scarano, forming the group Santa Esmeralda.
