Lệ Thu, born Bùi Thị Oanh on July 16, 1943, in Hải Phòng, Vietnam, was a Vietnamese-American singer. She began singing while studying French in Saigon in 1959, debuting at Bồng Lai Tea Room and adopting the stage name Lệ Thu. She rose to prominence in the 1960s, performing at the Queen Bee, Ritz, and Tự Do discos and recording audio tapes for Jo Marcel. In November 1979 she departed Vietnam, arriving in the United States in 1980, where she recorded her first overseas tape, “Hát trên đường tử sinh” (“Sing on the road to death”), in 1981.
