Born in Helsinki on December 13, 1977, Lauri Porra is a multidisciplinary
Finnish musician, best known for his participation in the metal band
Stratovarius. He began studying music and cello at the age of six, before going
on to learn drums, piano, double bass, trumpet and singing. He studied at the
Helsinki Conservatory from 1994 to 2004, and also sang in the YL men's choir. In
2005, he joined the metal band Stratovarius, where he has been bassist ever
since. He also pursues a solo career combining progressive neo-rock, minimalist
