Laura Niquay, born in 1982 in Wemotaci, Canada, is an Atikamekw
singer-songwriter. Coming from a family of musicians, she began playing guitar
at age 11 and started composing around 16-17 years old. Her early influences
included The Cranberries, Melissa Etheridge, and Tracy Chapman. In 2005, Niquay
contributed to the album Awacic with her uncle Arthur Petiquay and cousin
Patrick Boivin. She gained recognition by becoming the first Atikamekw artist to
perform at the FrancoFolies de Montreal in 2011. Her debut album, Waratanak, was
