Lida Melba Benavídez Tabárez, known professionally as Lágrima Ríos, was born on
September 26, 1924 in Durazno, Uruguay. She began her career singing with a
guitarist in 1945 and soon gained attention for her powerful voice. In 1950,
Alberto Mastra integrated her into his trío, giving her the stage name Lágrima
Ríos. Throughout her career, she collaborated with notable artists such as Celia
Cruz, Aníbal Troilo, and Roberto Goyeneche. Her albums include La perla negra
