G and Kool M, La Rumeur was formed in 1997, but made its real recording debut in
2002 with the album L'Ombre sur la Mesure, on which it quickly distinguished
itself from commercial rap. The group was determined not to make any concessions
on its highly committed lyrics, even if it meant denying itself access to the
mainstream media. Like other groups such as Ministère AMER, NTM and Sniper, they
were sued by the French state as early as 2002, in their case for "public
defamation of the national police"...
