Kalan Porter, born Richard Kalan Porter on November 11, 1985, in Medicine Hat,
Alberta, is a Canadian singer. Growing up on a buffalo ranch, Porter was
classically trained and played several instruments including the violin and
viola. He began his music career by winning Canadian Idol in 2004, beating out
nearly 9,000 contestants. His first single "Awake in a Dream" debuted at Number
one and became the best-selling debut single for a Canadian artist to date. That
year he released 219 Days, his debut album that achieved double platinum status.
